Terminal Illness Accelerated Benefit Rider

Updated: Sep 14

If you are diagnosed with a terminal illness, end-of-life care can be costly. A Terminal Illness Accelerated Benefit Rider on your life insurance policy can help your loved ones cover these costs during that difficult time.

This rider is included in most all life insurance policies and it allows you to accelerate a portion of your death benefit if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness with limited life expectancy.

For example, Ameritas Life Contracts automatically includes the rider (at no additional charge) which states that you can accelerate a portion of your death benefit – up to 90% of your face amount OR $1.5 million, whichever is less. With their contracts, terminal illness assumes your life expectancy is 12 months or less.
